Granted that by now, I am spoiled by my experience at The Chelsea. My one bedroom apartment is brand new, massive, and I have a fully-equipped gym and laundry right in the building. Not to mention the location, and of course, Stephen – who could possibly be the very best door man in Manhattan. I swear that Stephen knows everything there is to know about living in the city – and will gently walk you through whatever it is you need to know. He is the warmest guy in the world, and I don’t think he has a bad day. Anyway, on to other things …
I recently had my first apartment search experience. All of the events leading up this had prepared me for this quest, so I thought. I can handle the smaller spaces, long walks to the subway, the potential of a fourth floor walk-up. Well … my confidence went right out the window after seeing my very first apartment. The entire thing was the size of my bedroom at The Chelsea! Luckily, I have an incredible real estate broker, Melissa from Bond Realty. She’s a long-time New York resident, and has quickly become a dear friend and conduit to all things New York. She warned me about the pitfalls of apartment living in the city – while quickly reminding me that this is all part of the ethos of New York living – and that I will never be in my apartment anyway.
I returned to my way-too-big-for-NYC-apartment in Chelsea and caught up with Stephen and some of the little old ladies who reside in the building while doing laundry. They couldn’t stop laughing about my first apartment impressions, and neither could I … because sometimes, you just have to laugh.

Wow, my eyes have been opened, too. I am have been living in "suburbia" for so many years, so the thought of living in a tiny NYC apartment would be a big adjustment for me. One picture is really worth a 1000 words!
